An exhibit of artifacts, photographs of regional excavations, and images depicting Native American life in Centre County.  Presented by the Bald Eagle Archaeological Society (BEAS), Penn State's Matson Museum of Anthropology, and CCHS.

Building on the Past

A traveling exhibit which details the discovery of a large 19th century iron ore washing operation at the future Benner Commerce Park site.  Presented by the Centre County Historical Society.

Fall Festival

Downtown State College

This is the 12th annual Fall Festival in Downtown State College!  The Fall Festival is an exciting day filled with fun for the whole family, from alpacas to pumpkins, carousels to pony rides - there's so much to do!   Kids will love to decorate pumpkins and visit a variety of activity booths sponsored by various community organizations.  And hay rides are fun for the whole family!

My Community – What’s the Plan?

Penn State’s Extension Educators will fill the Studio with a smaller version of our own community! Wander in anytime before 12:30 and participate in a program they call: My Community: What’s the Plan?

Garbology

You can learn a lot from garbage! Register for this free program called Garbology and work with scientists to tell a story by examining someone else’s trash. This program is best enjoyed by upper elementary level learners (4-6th grade) or younger learners who attend with an adult. Space is limited!

Haunted Bog Walk for Kids
7 – 8:00 PM
Black Moshannon State Park, 4216 Beaver Rd., Phillipsburg

Take a walk on the boardwalk while getting scared and see the unique features of the bog. This event will be geared towards younger children, so it will not be super scary. Meet at Boat Launch #3 on West Side Road.

Tree Colors

Enjoy a pontoon boat ride about why the leaves are changing colors. This is a first come first serve program. PFD's will be provided. Cost: $2 per person. Age limit-4 years and older.

Hot Peas N’ Butter

The children's music group Hot Peas 'N Butter, three-time winner of the Parent's Choice Award, mixes elements of traditional Latin, Afro-Caribbean, jazz, folk, and rock. By using an interactive, energetic, and bilingual approach to performing multicultural music that doesn't condescend to kids, Hot Peas 'N Butter inspires care and creativity in children and adults. Danny Lapidus and Francisco Cotto, both of whom grew up in New York City, formed the band in 2000. Punt, Pass & Kick Competition

The NFL and Pepsi invite you to participate! FREE! Hosted by Centre Region Parks & Recreation and the State College Jaycees on Sunday, October 2 in Holuba Hall on the Penn State Campus. The top finishers in each age group will advance to future competitions.

To compete in the most well-known youth sports competition in the world, please fill out an entry form prior to the event, found online at http://www.crpr.org/sp-events/specials.html.  Open to all Centre Region boys and girls ages 6-15.

Mother Goose on the Loose

For children under three years old with a favorite adult.  Join us for a musical, rhyming adventure through the world of Mother Goose.  This is a lap-sit program focusing on rhymes and music, encouraging interaction between baby and adult. This program aides in the development of both pre-reading and social skills. 30 minute program. Stay after for some fun with friends and educational playthings.

Come skate with your family.  Riding toys with at least 3 wheels allowed on the rink.  Skate rentals included with the $6 admission fee and one parent skates free with each paid child admission.

Friday Fall Flashlight Tours

Astronomy: Looking into the Past

Have you ever wanted to visit the past? Well, here is your chance! Join the Park Naturalist for an evening of observation as you view the night sky and look into the past. Participants of this “out of this world” celestial program will have the opportunity to examine constellations, learn how to navigate at night, and explore the history of stars!
Meet at the Russell P. Letterman Campground Amphitheater.

The Festival is a great time to come out with family or friends and take a free wagon ride out to the pumpkin patch and pick just the pumpkin you want. There is also numerous other things to do at the festival. There is an apple slingshot, over a dozen crafters, a petting zoo and other activities to enjoy. Food is provided by a local Lions Club and baked goods including apple dumplings are available. 10% of all the earnings on both Saturdays will go to an orphanage in the Dominican Republic.

Family Ghosts and Goblins Tour

Pennsylvania's Most Unique Haunted House and Trail. Costumed guides explain the wonders and highlights of a haunted Lincoln Caverns with spirited narrative while supporting characters provide humor and horror along the way. During the daytime tours special care is taken by the staff members to gear the 'fright level' of the tour to the age group of the participants, making Ghosts & Goblins an appropriate Halloween experience for everyone. 4th Annual Cranberry Festival
1 – 5:00 PM
Black Moshannon State Park, 4216 Beaver Rd., Phillipsburg

Take a walk in the bog to find out where the cranberries are, make a leaf print, and race a pumpkin at this fun festival. Visit the craft fair, make a pine cone bird feeder, then make a colonial candle to take home. Most events will take place near the Environmental Learning Center. To participate, visit the Friends of Black Moshannon table to get your $1 stamp. Hayrides will be $1 per person.

Draconids Meteor Shower Watch
7 – 8:00 PM
Black Moshannon State Park, 4216 Beaver Rd., Phillipsburg

Watch for the Draconids Meteor Shower from Boat Launch #2 on West Side Road. This is an early night meteor shower, so you won't have to stay up all night to view it. Expect to see about 10 meteors per hour, but you never know when Draco the Dragon will wake up and produce many more meteors per hour.
