10th Anniversary of the “Bears that Care” Drive
September 11 – September 21
Artistic Horizon, Building C on Cato Ave, State College

Artistic Horizon is proud to announce the 10th year anniversary of the "Bears that Care" program. The program was started by artist Michele Rivera after the terrorist attack in New York on September 11, 2001. Today the program reaches children in crisis locally and worldwide. The program collects and distributes stuffed animals with a handwritten note of encouragement for a child.

Please support our 10th year anniversary anyway possible.  Donate a NEW stuffed animals 16" or smaller or funds towards the cost of shipping. Write handwritten notes of encouragement.  Tell your friends! Call Michele @ 814-234-3441 with further questions.

Cirque du Soleil to present Quidam
September 14 – September 18

Quidam had its world premiere in Montreal under the Big Top in April 1996. Since that time, the production has toured on five continents and been experienced by millions of people. In December 2010, Quidam embarked on a new journey, performing the same captivating production, but now in arenas throughout North America. The international cast features 52 world-class acrobats, musicians, singers and characters. Young Zoé is bored; her parents, distant and apathetic, ignore her. Her life has lost all meaning. Seeking to fill the void of her existence, she slides into an imaginary world-the world of Quidam-where she meets characters who encourage her to free her soul.  Ticket Information.

Engineers of Black Moshannon

Enjoy a pontoon boat while seeing a beaver lodge up close.  Discover interesting facts about beavers.  This is a first come first serve program due to the limited seats.  PFD's will be provided.  Age limit-4 years and older.  Meet at Boat Launch #1.   Cost:  $2 per person.

Pasto Agricultural Museum Open House

The Pasto Agricultural Museum showcases rare and unusual farm and household items dating from 4,000 BC to the 1940s. Visitors can learn about early farm life as our nation grew while gaining hands-on experience with the history of agriculture and household tools by turning the cranks, moving levers and enjoying activities, demonstrations, lectures & tours that highlight the museum collection, and connect agricultural history to the present day.

Grandparent’s Day Scavenger Hunt

Kids, bring your grandparents to Millbrook Marsh Nature Center to participate in a fun scavenger hunt designed for you to enjoy together! This kid-based, eco-friendly scavenger hunt will guide you and your grandparents through the marsh to explore like never before! This activity is FREE, but donations are greatly appreciated to help support MMNC programs. No registration required.

Our Forefathers' Workshop: Tools of the 18th & 19th Century

Leave your power tools behind and attend a hands-on demonstration about the tools and building techniques of early Pennsylvania settlers. Learn from retired PSU professor Richard Pencek about how shake shingles, beams, and pegs were made in this informative and entertaining workshop. Hosted by the Centre County Historical Society on the grounds of the Centre Furnace Mansion.

Harvest Full Moon Paddle

Paddle on the lake by the light of the full moon!  Enjoy a campfire where snacks and drinks will be served.  Pre-registration is required.  Please contact the park office at 814-342-5960 or email blackmoshannnonee@state.pa.us to register.  Cost:  $6 per person, $3 for children 12 and under.  This program is not recommended for children under the age of 7.   Payment must be received at least one hour before program.  Please discuss payment options when registering.

Story programs for infants, ages newborn-18 months. We've designed hands-on programs to encourage interaction between parent and child in a group setting.  Our 20 minute storytimes demonstrate story-sharing techniques for parents and infants. An adult must accompany each child; parents are responsible for ensuring that siblings behave in an appropriate manner.  Registration requested. Space limited to 20 families. Drop-ins welcome as space permits.

Threes, Fours, Five – Stories Alive!
10:30 – 11:00 AM

Story programs for three, four, and five year-olds. We've planned programs to instill an awareness of library resources and to foster a love for children's literature.  Parents may attend story programs with their children if they wish.  We ask that parents stay in the Children's Department while their children attend story time.  Registration requested.  Space limited to 20 children.  Drop-ins welcome as space permits.  All sessions begin at 10:30 AM.

Mother Goose on the Loose

For children under three years old with a favorite adult.  Join us for a musical, rhyming adventure through the world of Mother Goose.  This is a lap-sit program focusing on rhymes and music, encouraging interaction between baby and adult. This program aides in the development of both pre-reading and social skills. 30 minute program. Stay after for some fun with friends and educational playthings.

Knee High Naturalists: Inch by Inch

Primitive Crafts Festival

Don't miss out on the opportunity to learn some ancient skills at this unique event! There will be programs on a variety of topics including eastern long hunters, flint knapping, primitive weapons, atlatl throwing and fire making. There will also be ongoing demonstrations and vendors on archery, cordage making, arrowheads, and hide tanning. A final schedule of events will be posted online prior to the event. Meet at Pavilion # 6 and 7.

Then & Now Living History Encampment/Bivouac

Visit this Living History Time Line of Uniforms and Equipment from the Colonial Period thru the Present.  18th and 19th century fashion show begins at 1pm followed by the 20th and 21st centuries at 2pm with a historic weapons demonstration at 3pm. This is an AW (All Weather) event.

This is your chance to venture into the heart of Nittany Nation.  See the behind the scenes sights and walk through the tunnel to where legends are made.  Tours are $10 for adults, $5 for children, students (elementary school, middle school, high school, and PSU students with valid ID), senior citizens over 65, and museum friends.  Registration for the tours is required.  To register for a stadium tour, please call 814-865-0044 during open business hours, which are Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-4pm, and Sunday 12pm-4pm.
