Sorry for the delay this week but we have been on vacation and though I planned to continue posting we did not have internet access at our cottage.

Thursday, July 14

Central PA Festival of the Arts
10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
Downtown State College and University Park


The Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts will bring over 125,000 people to downtown State College and the University Park campus of Penn State to celebrate the arts with its nationally recognized Sidewalk Sale and Exhibition, gallery exhibition, sand sculpture and music, dance and theatrical performances in a variety of traditional and non-traditional venues.

Discovery Space of Central PA Open House

112 W. Foster Ave. in State College

The doors will be open free to the public to take a peak at the 5-6 exhibits ready to be viewed. Many exhibits are still in the making but Discovery Space wanted the community to have an early preview of a few finished exhibits.

Make it, Take it Event: Passport to the France
11:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Michael's, 44 Collannade Way, State College

Join Michael's staff in learning about the culture of France. Find a variety of French-themed activities. Create an impressionist-style painting and funky little craft Frenchmen. Free while supplies last.  Ages 3 and up.

Lemont Concert Series
7:30 PM
The Village Green, Dale Street and Mount Nittany Road, Lemont

Bring a picnic dinner and enjoy a free concert by Ellen Shultz. Cost free, all ages welcome.

Movies on the Mountain: Despicable Me
9:00 PM
Tussey Mountain Amphitheatre, 301 Bear Meadow Rd., Boalsburg

Enjoy your favorite movies on the wide screen! Admission begins at 8pm, is just $1 and classic movie popcorn and candy will be available- as well as hot dogs, hamburgers, and other good food you won't find at regular showings! Soda, Beer, and other beverages, too. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and watch a fun flick outside... a great American tradition! PLUS from 6-9pm the Go-Kart track is running Half-Off specials on races nights before a movie!

Japanese fans are made of paper on a bamboo frame, usually with a design painted on them. In addition to folding fans (ōgi), the non-bending fans (uchiwa) are popular and commonplace. The fan is primarily used for fanning oneself in hot weather. The fan symbolizes friendship, respect and good wishes. They are given on special occasions, and they are also an important stage prop in Japanese dance. Create your own fan to beat the summer heat or to give as a gift to someone special. Cost free, no registration required.

Celebrate One World, Many Stories with Schlow and the State Theatre. Two of a Kind Presents: All Over this World—A Musical Journey!

Summer Bike-In Movie Series (Rain date 7/23)

Bike or walk to one of these local parks to catch a FREE outdoor movie shown on an inflatable screen. This environmentally-friendly event is a wonderful way to spend a summer evening and is easily accessible from a bike path. Bring a blanket, pack a picnic and enjoy this summer event presented by Centre Region Parks & Recreation, the Centre Region Bike Coalition, Freeze Thaw Cycles and Envinity. The events are free, but donations to CRPR & CRBC are accepted. (P.S. Please make this a safe experience and don’t forget your bike light!).
